Assocham organises seventh season of nutraceuticals

Experts from the sector spoke on the title “Nutraceuticals – World’s Future Ceuticals” to encourage modification in lifestyle by nutraceuticals

Assocham organised its seventh season of nutraceuticals with the title “Nutraceuticals – World’s Future Ceuticals” to encourage modification in lifestyle by nutraceuticals.

The welcome address was presented by Dr Upasana Arora, Co-Chair, ASSOCHAM National Empowerment Council, and Chairperson, Yashoda Superspeciality Hospital, Kaushambi. In her address, she said, “The nutraceutical industry has proven to have room for growth, especially as the population ages and healthcare rises – and as people develop more concern with their health and wellbeing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers in the nutraceutical industry should understand the drivers of nutraceutical industry growth if they want to continue to thrive.”

Further, Dr Blossom Kochhar, Co-Chair, ASSOCHAM Empowerment Council and, Chairperson, Aroma Magic, in her special address said that nutrition products can be an inexpensive and safe solution to tackle important unmet health needs.

“Nutraceutical products are recognised not only for their better health outcomes to reduce the risk of cancer, heart diseases and other related ailments, but other related ones such as cataracts, menopausal symptoms, insomnia, weakened memory and concentration and gastrointestinal problems,” she added.

In addition, ASSOCHAM acknowledged Dr Muhammed Majeed, Chairman and founder, Sami-Sabinsa Group, for his immense contribution towards shaping the nutraceutical industry by presenting him with the “Legend of the Millennium in Nutraceutical Industry” honour.

Dr Lakshmi Mundkur, Vice President – Biological R&D, Sami-Sabinsa Group, highlighted the importance of nutraceuticals in women’s health. She mentioned that women’s nutritional needs change during menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause. A woman’s reproductive life means that her nutritional needs differ greatly from those of a man. Hence, at every stage, nutrition and regular exercise are the cornerstones of good health and optimal energy.

Narendra Tripathi, General Manager, Tirupati Group, talked about the importance of sports nutrition as Khelega Bharat toh Khilega Bharat where he highlighted that sports nutrition plays a key role in optimising the beneficial effects of physical activity, “whether you’re a bodybuilder, a professional athlete in training or exercising to improve your mental and physical health.”

Manjari Chandra, Consultant, Therapeutic and Functional Nutrition, Max Healthcare, Daivam Wellness, and member, AWF, talked about functional foods, where she highlighted the role of functional foods in cancer prevention and therapy. She also talked about the importance of common plant-based food sources with their bioactive components and biological functions.

Amit Srivastava, Chief Catalyst, Nutrify Today, said, “Your Networth is your Network.”

For the growth of the nutraceutical industry, the next wave is AI-assisted knowledge and connections, he added.
