The US-based Science magazine has recognised two Indian pharma companies — Biocon and Dr Reddy’s — for ‘Science 2022 Top Employer List.’ While Biocon has been chosen for three key attributes: ‘innovative leader in the industry’, ‘is socially responsible’ and ‘has loyal employees;’ Dr Reddy’s was rated highly on ‘treats employees with respect’, ‘is socially responsible’ and ‘provides employees with autonomy.’

Biocon has been ranked eighth in the list, and Dr Reddy’s has made a debut holding the 18th position. The list is based on a survey by Science as part of its annual exercise since 2022. The survey shows that top employers pursue a systematic approach to professional development and advancement, as well as recognise that to attract the best scientific talent, they need to create a space for creativity, exploration and innovation.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson, Biocon and Biocon Biologics, said, “We are pleased to be recognised amongst the Top 20 Global Employers by the prestigious Science magazine for the 10th consecutive year. This year’s rank of No 8 for Biocon Group reflects the passion of our people to make a lasting impact on global health. We have always focussed on creating a workplace culture that encourages ideation, collaboration and experimentation. This culture, which is fully aligned with the organisation’s vision and values, enables our employees to achieve their full potential through innovative thinking and a sense of unwavering purpose. This global ranking is a recognition of the quality of our talent pool and their commitment towards serving patients through innovative science.”

For the companies that emerged in the top 20, remarks from survey respondents reflected that scientists positioned passion as a top metric for their choice of employers. The survey also revealed that an investment in human resources development is often the one that produces the biggest return on investment.
