NuSynth Technologies is developing a platform to redesign chemical processes, with a focus on cost efficiency, yield, cycle time, safety, sustainability and scalability.

Over the last two decades, India has built capacity in chemical manufacturing. However, many molecules continue to rely on multi-step synthesis routes that involve higher material and energy costs, import-dependent intermediates and hazardous reagents, while posing challenges during commercial scale-up. This creates an opportunity to strengthen domestic R&D and develop chemical process innovation capabilities.

NuSynth addresses this through process redesign based on first principles rather than incremental changes. By re-evaluating starting materials, reaction pathways and process economics, the company develops synthetic routes designed to improve cost efficiency, yield, cycle time, safety, sustainability and scalability.

Each R&D cycle combines first-principles process redesign with predictive synthesis models, incorporating manufacturability, raw-material economics, safety and quality from the outset. The cycles also feed the company’s AI engine, which converts experimental data into a proprietary knowledge base. This enables future molecule selection, experimentation and commercial scale-up to draw on accumulated data, with the aim of shortening traditional R&D gestation cycles.

NuSynth’s platform approach is based on the premise that commercially important molecules can be produced through redesigned processes. The company is beginning with pharmaceuticals and electronics chemicals and aims to extend its process innovation capabilities across chemistry-led sectors over time.

By combining its R&D engine with in-house scientific expertise and collaboration with a network of scientists and entrepreneurs, NuSynth is developing a repeatable approach to originating chemistry and translating it into commercially scalable processes.

“Over the last two decades, India has built significant strength at manufacturing established chemistry. We believe the next chapter will be defined by our ability to innovate on the underlying chemistry itself. At NuSynth, we are going back to first principles – questioning established routes, redesigning processes and engineering them for commercial scale from day one. Our ambition is to build proprietary processes from India that can deliver superior economics and sustainability, and serve customers across global markets,” said Poorvank Purohit, Co-Founder & CEO, NuSynth Technologies.

The company’s founding team brings together expertise in scientific R&D, commercialisation and business building. Poorvank Purohit, former MD & CEO of Solara Active Pharma Sciences, brings industry experience and global customer relationships. Dr Ramesha A R, a postdoctoral researcher from NIH, Washington, and PhD graduate from IISc, brings scientific and R&D expertise.

Abhishek Deo and Dipak Bajaj bring commercial and operating experience across Zetwerk, Mstack, Ola, JPMorgan, BlackBuck and SUN Mobility. Together, the team has led multiple zero-to-scale journeys, including companies that have reached unicorn scale and public-market milestones.

The new capital will support the development of NuSynth’s R&D and technology capabilities, its initial portfolio of proprietary processes, scale-up capabilities and team.

Shruti Srivastava, Partner, Avaana Capital, said, “The next phase of India’s growth in high-performance industrial chemistry will increasingly be shaped by the ability to originate proprietary synthesis pathways that are fundamentally more efficient and commercially scalable over time. NuSynth brings together deep expertise across R&D, innovation and commercial scale-up, combining first-principles approach with AI, to build differentiated process IP from India. We believe this approach will improve the economics, resource efficiency and resilience of chemical manufacturing across critical sectors, while creating globally competitive technology platforms from India.”

Avijeet Alagathi, Managing Partner, Shastra VC, said, “What excites us about NuSynth is how they are using AI to make chemical R&D faster and more efficient. By learning from each experiment, they reduce trial and error and shorten timelines for developing and scaling new chemistries. The founding team brings together a rare combination of scientific depth, industry experience, and execution capability, and we believe this combination, along with its data and an AI engine, strongly positions NuSynth to build a differentiated process innovation platform from India for global markets.”
