Pharma Live Expo & Summit 2024 concludes successfully in Mumbai

Industry leaders congregate to showcase advancements, highlight opportunities, draw roadmap for growth in the sector

The second edition of Pharma Live Expo & Summit, organised by the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) and Icexpo, recently concluded at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.

The event, hosted under the aegis of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, comprised an exhibitions, conference, and networking opportunities.

The event was inaugurated by Dr Arunish Chawla, IAS – Dept. of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India. The inaugural session also included Daara B Patel, Secretary General, IDMA; Abhimanyu Kale, IAS, Commissioner, FDA, Maharashtra; Dr H G Koshia, Commissioner, Food & Drugs Control Administration, Gujarat; Ajit Singh, Chairman, Associated Capsules Group Worldwide; Dr Viranchi Shah, National President, IDMA and Director, Saga Lifesciences; Chirag Doshi, Chairman, Pharma Live Expo;  Shobhit Deputy Drugs Controller, FDA, Madhya Pradesh; Jayant Kumar, Dy. Drugs Controller, CDSCO; Eddy Wardoyo, Consul General, Republic of Indonesia; Raj Kumar Sharma, Founder President & CEO, Indo Latin American Chamber of Commerce; etc.

“India’s pharma and med-tech industries are on a powerful trajectory, fuelled by the government’s two-pronged approach: targeted financial incentives and strategic policy frameworks” mentioned Dr Chawla. He highlighted initiatives like bulk drug and medical device perk schemes, common facility support, and a dedicated policy framework presently mapping the value chain across tariffs and GST to optimise tax structures and incentivise domestic value addition. He accentuated the ongoing reform of existing schemes to ensure their effectiveness in meeting industry needs. Dr Chawla also emphasised the industry’s role in the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.

Daara Patel, Secretary General, IDMA, emphasised the association’s commitment to empowering the Indian pharma industry. Highlighting the strength of their network, featuring both national and international speakers, including partners like the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), he said that these partnerships not only bring expert voices to the industry discussions but also facilitate regular seminars and workshops on cutting-edge advancements. Patel characterised the summit as more than a mere congregation, describing it as a celebration of the relentless pursuit of excellence in the pharma field.

The exhibition sought to showcase the advancements in the pharma sector innovations and explore the latest trends and innovations. The conference saw prominent speakers in the pharma and regulatory domains addressing crucial topics such as digitisation and automation in pharma manufacturing, role of excipients in drug formulation, patient-centric approaches in healthcare delivery, track and trace systems, regulatory changes, dissolution testing, etc, through panel discussions and standalone presentations. Industry experts delved into advances in the pharma industry and offered fresh perspectives to capture growth in an evolving landscape. They also highlighted the growth potential of the industry and recommended strategies to mitigate challenges.

Delegates from countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Ghana, Uganda, Angola, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Swaziland, Slovak Republic, Australia, Madagascar, Chile, Somalia, Nepal, Rwanda, UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Philippines, Nigeria, Barbados, Myanmar, Germany, and UAE, joined the event.

Thus, the Pharma Live Expo & Summit 2024 provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge, networking, and showcasing innovations in the pharma industry.
