Kusum Healthcare said its manufacturing facility in Sumy, Ukraine, was hit by a Russian drone attack, resulting in the death of one employee and injuries to several others. The company said the total damage is projected to exceed USD 50 million.

Kusum Healthcare, which exports to 22 nations worldwide, including through KUSUM IN UKRAINE, condemned the attack on its manufacturing facility in Sumy, Ukraine.

The company said the facility is dedicated to manufacturing life-saving drugs. It also said the incident follows an attack on its Ukrainian warehouse on April 14, 2025, when a Russian drone destroyed the facility.

Kusum Healthcare said it has manufacturing facilities in India, including two units in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, and one unit in SEZ-Pithampur, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

According to the company, losses from the previous attack exceeded UAH 1 billion, while the total current damage is projected to exceed USD 50 million. Kusum Healthcare said it had made repeated pleas through Indian pharma forums for intervention at the international diplomatic level to protect private healthcare businesses from the conflict.

The company said one employee was confirmed dead at the site and several others were injured. The India business and management authorities at Kusum Healthcare are reviewing the situation.

The Federation of Pharma Entrepreneurs (FOPE) also expressed concern over the reported attack. In a statement posted on LinkedIn by Harish Jain, President, FOPE, the organisation offered condolences to the family of the employee who died and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

FOPE said pharma manufacturing facilities form part of healthcare infrastructure and that their safety and continued operation are important during a conflict. The organisation said it stands with Kusum Group, the affected employees and their families, and hopes the company can assess the damage, protect its workforce and restore operations when conditions permit.

FOPE also reiterated its support for India’s position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that a lasting resolution should be pursued through dialogue and diplomacy, with respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also said that medicines, healthcare and humanitarian needs should be insulated from the consequences of conflict as far as possible.

“FOPE stands in solidarity with Kusum Group and hopes for the safety of all its employees and for peace and stability to return to the region at the earliest,” said the organisation.
