Government approves PMBI’s proposal to open JAKs in 651 districts

In this regard, PMBI is inviting online applications in different states and Union Territories (UTs)

The Centre has approved Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India’s (PMBI) proposal to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) in 651 districts across India. In this regard, PMBI is inviting online applications in different states and Union Territories (UTs).

Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), an incentive of Rs 5 lakh is provided to the JAKs as financial assistance and one-time additional incentive of Rs 2 lakh (as reimbursement for IT and Infra expenditure) is provided to those JAKs opened in the north-eastern states, himalayan areas, island territories and backward areas identified as aspirational districts by NITI Aayog, or, if opened by women entrepreneur, ex-servicemen, divyang, Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

There are already over 9,000 JAKs that are functional across the country. The government has set a target to increase this number to 10,000 by March 2024.
