65 per cent employees in lifesciences sector use social media to make career/employment decisions: Kelly Services survey

Global workforce solutions leader, Kelly Services has released the findings of their annual global survey, The Kelly Global Workforce Index (KGWI) titled ‘Engaging Active and Passive Job Seekers’ in the natural resources, life sciences and financial services and insurance sectors. The survey extensively covers topics like career development, candidate experience from hiring to on boarding and worker preference and workplace agility.

It further indicates the advent of online talent communities and online job boards as some of the most contemporary job processes followed by employees in India while making any career and job related decision. The KGWI canvassed responses from approximately 230,000 people across 31 countries.

“With changing mindsets and perceptions, more online talent communities have sprouted and employees also seen to be more eager now to learn about company details, workplace, reputation before applying for a job and at the same time get access to job opportunities along with trusted industry information. This further explains the importance of various social media and online tools as a vital determinant in deciding job for a potential candidate,” said Kamal Karanth, Managing Director, Kelly Services India & Malaysia.

Today, most of the workforce are socially active and present on various social media platforms. In the Indian life sciences sector, 65 per cent employees use social media in making a career or employment decision. Additionally, social media has also become a new found place as a direct job search tool, in India 63 per cent employees use social media as a job search tool. Due to the vast information being readily available on the Internet, finding jobs via social media has bridged the gap between recruiters and potential employees to reach each other with minimum time lag. This further helps the recruiter or company to find the right talent that matches the job requirement/ skill set.
