Akums develops moisturisation formulations for evolving skincare needs
New portfolio covers everyday hydration, intensive moisturisation and targeted skincare applications
Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has introduced a portfolio of moisturisation formulations ahead of the winter skincare season. The formulations incorporate different ingredients and approaches to hydration, skin-barrier care and targeted skincare.
Akums’ portfolio includes formulations incorporating ceramides, peptides, butters, minerals and other active ingredients. The range covers everyday hydration, intensive moisturisation, nourishment and barrier-focused care, as well as formulations developed for specific requirements such as acne-prone skin and uneven-looking skin tone.
“Winter naturally brings moisturization into sharper focus, but the opportunity goes beyond a seasonal product cycle. Consumers are becoming more aware of ingredients and increasingly looking for products that serve a specific purpose. Our focus has therefore been on developing different formulation directions within an established category, while keeping the requirements of commercial manufacturing in view,” said Sanjeev Jain, Managing Director, AKUMS Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The development is part of Akums’ work across cosmetic, dermatology and topical manufacturing, alongside its pharmaceutical CDMO business. Its capabilities include product development across topical formulations, with scope to work on different ingredients, textures and formats for domestic and international markets.
Arushi Jain, Director, Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd., said, “Moisturisation is an established category, but there is still considerable scope to innovate through formulation, texture and ingredient selection. Consumers are increasingly looking for products that fit specific skincare routines rather than a single solution for everyone. This portfolio has been developed with that shift in mind, while keeping formulation feasibility and commercial scalability important to the development process.”
The formulations can be developed across different formats and textures depending on product requirements, intended use and market positioning. Their development also reflects the role of formulation choices and manufacturing feasibility in translating skincare concepts into commercial products.
