Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, India’s leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), has announced the launch of its DCGI-approved Pregabalin, Methylcobalamin and Duloxetine (Delayed Release) Capsules, a novel triple-action therapy for the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain associated with Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Neuropathy is emerging as a significant public health concern in India, driven by the growing prevalence of diabetes and nutritional deficiencies. India is home to more than 100 million people living with diabetes, and studies suggest that nearly 25–50% of diabetic patients may develop neuropathy during the course of their disease. Vitamin B12 deficiency, reported in a large proportion of urban Indians, further contributes to symptoms such as tingling, numbness, fatigue, and cognitive changes, making effective management increasingly important.

Peripheral neuropathy is a progressive neurological disorder characterised by burning sensations, tingling, numbness, shooting pain, and loss of nerve function. If left unmanaged, it can lead to irreversible nerve damage, impaired mobility, sleep disturbances, and reduced quality of life. Early intervention and comprehensive treatment are therefore critical.

The newly launched formulation combines Pregabalin 75 mg, Methylcobalamin 1500 mcg, and Duloxetine 20 mg/30 mg (Delayed Release), bringing together three complementary therapeutic mechanisms. Pregabalin helps reduce abnormal nerve firing and provides relief from neuropathic pain symptoms. Duloxetine modulates central pain pathways by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake, while also supporting improvements in associated anxiety and sleep disturbances. Methylcobalamin, the neurologically active form of Vitamin B12, supports myelin sheath repair, improves nerve conduction, and aids in the regeneration of damaged nerve fibres.

A key differentiator of the therapy is its advanced dual-delivery technology, which enables the immediate and consistent release of Pregabalin and Methylcobalamin while ensuring targeted intestinal delivery of Duloxetine. This innovative design helps optimize the absorption profile of each active ingredient, supporting enhanced therapeutic effectiveness and patient comfort. The formulation is designed to promote therapeutic consistency, improve convenience, and encourage long-term treatment adherence.

Commenting on the launch, Sandeep Jain, Managing Director, Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals said, India is witnessing a sharp rise in neuropathy cases driven by diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, and lifestyle disorders. Managing this condition requires more than symptomatic relief—it demands a holistic approach that supports nerve repair and long-term neurological health. Our triple-action formulation is a science-led innovation that combines multiple mechanisms into a single, patient-friendly dosage form to improve outcomes and adherence.”

He added, As disease patterns evolve, there is a growing need for therapies that address multiple dimensions of patient care within a single treatment approach. This formulation combines pain management with nerve health support, offering clinicians a comprehensive option for neuropathy management while reinforcing our focus on developing differentiated and clinically relevant therapies for India’s healthcare needs.”

The CNS and neuropathy treatment market in India is expanding steadily, driven by increasing disease prevalence, improved diagnosis rates, and growing awareness among healthcare professionals and patients. Combination therapies are gaining prominence as they address multiple disease pathways while simplifying treatment regimens.

Indicated for diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain with co-existing Vitamin B12 deficiency, the formulation offers a differentiated option within the neuroscience segment. With this launch, Akums continues to strengthen its neuro-care portfolio and commitment to developing innovative, clinically relevant, and patient-centric therapies for India’s evolving healthcare landscape.
